Exceptional letter from Pablo Picasso to his friend Max Jacob, testament to the priviledged links between the two men.
Pablo Picasso and Max Jacob met in Paris in 1901, sharing a room there.
Max Jacob would go on to become Picasso's first supporter, and both lived through the adventure of the Bateau Lavoir.
Four extraordinary drawings accompany the letter, including a study for hands, a woman with arms extended, an embracing couple who served as a study for the paintings "Repas frugal" and "Pauvre couple dans un café".
"If I can work here I'll stay but if I see that I cannot do anything I'll get the hell out for Paris", Picasso wrote his friend in a delightful mixture of languages.
"This drawing I'm sending you in the first page is a sketch for paintings I made, he explains, before asking: "You will write often, no ? Farewell mi old Max.
Kisses. Your brother Picasso".
