Note: A year after the outbreak of the Civil War, in 1937, drafted by the Republican government, Clavé found himself on the Aragon front, before working as a draughtsman for the Armies in Barcelona, where he designed the sets for a play by Ramon Vinas in 1938. In 1939, having fled Franco's rule and arrived in Perpignan, France, he exhibited his first works. In the few surviving pieces from his "Catalan" period, with the exception of advertising works and cinema posters, we find the taste for color and collage which will characterize his future work.
