Note: In 2007, for Documenta 12 in Kassel, Germany, Ai Weiwei presented his 'Fairytale' project in honor of the Grimm brothers - who wrote the majority of their tales in Kassel between 1812 ans 1815 - project during which he invited 1001 Chinese citizens of all ages and walks of life to live their own 'fairytale'. He thus choreographed the massive temporary migration of 1001 Chinese citizens to Kassel, along with 1001 Qing dynasty (1644-1911) chairs which he collected and restored.
These chairs are the remnants of the physical and conceptual passage of these individuals from East to West.
