On the occasion of the sale "From Beirut Art + Design scene" on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at 6 pm, PIASA highlights the work of several young Lebanese painters, all actors of Beirut's artistic scene. City at the crossroads of East and West.

Anas Albraehe (Born in 1991)


Anas Albraehe learns painting and drawing at the University of Fine Arts in Damascus, Syria. The outbreak of war prompted him to move to Beirut where he obtained a master's degree in psychology and art therapy. Since 2015, his work has been presented in several solo exhibitions in Lebanon and Jordan as well as collective exhibitions in the United States, Kuwait and Bahrain. The representations of workers in their daily lives, is a recurring motif in his paintings. His recent works, with sumptuous colours, on a large scale and yet meticulously detailed, have the same brilliance and intimacy as his previous series of works.

Tagreed Darghouth (Born 1979)

Born in Saida, Lebanon, in 1979, Tagreed Darghouth began her training in fine arts at the Lebanese University of Beirut before continuing it at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. In 2004, the Zico House in Beirut exhibited his paintings for the first time. Engaged in a dialogue with an often thick pictorial material, the artist evokes social and political themes. Through her figurative works, she paints the portrait of a country whose imagination is still strongly marked by war. She currently works and lives in Beirut, Lebanon.

Yasmina Nysten (Born in 1988)

Yasmina Alexandra Nysten was born in Helsinki, Finland and studied at the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts in Beirut, Lebanon, her mother's homeland. She now works as an artist in New York. She started her career by exhibiting in Beirut in exhibitions such as "Shou tabkha ya mara" at the Art Lounge, gathering all women artists. Her 2009 solo exhibition "The Seven Minute Special" in New York shows that she has conducted an asymmetrical experiment on the human form.

Talar Aghbashian (Born in 1981)

Born in Beirut in 1981, Talar Aghbashian began her training at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Lebanese University (1999-2003) which she continued at the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. The gesturality in her painting is achieved through a playful approach of materials and techniques. Routhed by a few floating details within her non-figurative compositions, the eye of the viewer converts the pictorial space into a fantastical landscape. Living and working in London, Talar Aghbashian received the John Moores Award in 2016.
