On Wednesday 27th March 2019 at 18:00 PIASA is organising an "Italian Design" auction dedicated to the greatest figures in 20th century Italian design. Among them, Angelo Mangiarotti, internationally renowned designer, whose several pieces in marble and precious wood will be on display.
Angelo Mangiarotti was born in 1921 in Milan. After receiving his degree in architecture from the Milan Polytechnic School, he went to the United States in 1953 where he met architects and designers Frank Lloyd Wright, Walter Gropius, Mies van der Rohe and Konrad Wachsmann, among others, who inspired him and strongly influenced his work.

After his return from the United States, he and Bruno Morassutti opened an architecture firm until 1960 and then became artistic director of Colle Cristalleria from 1986 to 1992.
In addition to his architectural and design work, Mangiarotti is actively involved as a professor in Chicago, Venice and Florence and participates in numerous seminars and conferences around the world.
Among the designer's pieces presented at this sale, we find one of his most emblematic models: the Eros table. Created in the 1970s, the conical foot is embedded in a marble top and the whole system is maintained by the sole force of gravity.

The Italian architect and industrial designer, known for his masterful approach to materials and his many collaborations with the biggest names in the field, such as Cassina and Poltronova Snaidero, imagines creations that are still relevant today, revisiting everyday objects in an unconventional and ingenious way, like the Edition Bernini table models in bronze and walnut, combining lightness of form and technicality.
